Just three months ago, I said I give up on trying to build a new product:
I give up on trying to ship a new product.
I give up being torn between surviving and thriving.
I give up the creator in me, so that I can focus on being provider.
I give up. For now.
Because I was trying hard to just survive:
It’s hard to stay optimistic and excited about new ideas when survival is at stake. It’s 10x more difficult to build new things when the lives of the entire family—wife, young child, elderly parents—is at stake. That’s why I struggled to build anything at all.
But I knew that I didn’t need to give up forever. Just till whenever finances and opportunities are more stable:
So here’s the game plan:
Secure 1-2 long term gigs for software dev freelancing
Secure enough training workshops (1-2 per month at least) to last the year, till early next year
Bonus is if I can land a consultancy gig (but bandwidth)
Keep growing Carrd plugins, Lifelog, Lists Kit
After that, we can talk new product.
After three long months, pivoting into a developer career, finding random gigs here and there to piece together a living, working 5 jobs at one point, now settling into 4 jobs, settling into a long term frontend development gig for a local startup, managing Carrd’s account on X, conducting training workshops twice a month, continuing to grind on my Carrd plugins… I think I’m finally in the clear.
Nothing’s 100% guarantee of course… but the situation does look optimistic. For once, I can make plans for the future.
I got a future to look forward to, for myself, for my family.
And I started making products again.
I could cry 😢
Glad you're back to shipping!
It's been 5 months for me with a stable job but I never stopped doing my things on the side, that'd be boring and I love to think there's a potential upside to my efforts in the future.
I'm curious about what kind of workshops you're giving and how those are organized/conducted. Can you tell me more about this?
Good luck Jason!
