Simple ≠ Easy
Simple doesn’t mean easy. Indie hackers often conflate the two.
They say, the simplest explanation or approach is most likely the right one.
Occam’s Razor.
So what’s the simplest explanation on how succeed at indie hacking?
Just make something people will pay for and let them know about it.
If people don’t know, then find ways to get their attention. If people are not paying for it, then stop. Build another thing. Brute force this till you hit gold.
I think this is the simplest explanation. Thing is, simple doesn’t mean easy. Problem is, people conflate simple with being easy. They think that’s too simple, therefore too easy to be true. It’s like this mid wit meme:
The middle majority won’t believe you. It’s supposed to be complicated! Development. Tech stacks. Marketing. Sales. Tax. Etc etc. And somewhere in there is a shortcut that will save you from all the steps in between. A hack to rule them all.
When I get distracted, I too start looking for hacks and shortcuts.
Don’t over-complicate things.
There’s too much noise out there.
It’s simple.
A lot simpler than we imagined.
It’ll still be hard to get to profitability.
But simple.
By the way, I launched yet another Carrd plugin this month!
Consistency consistency consistency.
This new free Carrd plugin is called the native popup modal. I keep seeing people ask about popups and modals in Carrd. But there’s a way to just use native elements to mimic the effect of a popup.
No need for embed code, no messing around with CSS and HTML.
First time making a ‘plugin’ without any code, that can be used even on the free Basic plan!
