Products that favour consistency
Entrepreneurship and winning asymmetric bets are close bedfellows. But what if you choose the consistency route?
There’s games where it’s the effort to results ratio are linear, like diet, exercise. And there’s games where it’s non-linear, like business, investment, gambling.
The linear games require consistency, day in, day out. The non-linear games are won by an eye for opportunity, followed by brief intensity to leverage it.
My strength had always been about consistency, less of intensity, even though I’ve been trying to grow in skill and strength in that weakness. That’s why I excel in the smaller games in indie hacking that require discipline, habits and consistency:
Over 1000 days of daily writing, working out the publishing, content creation muscles
Showing up everyday on Twitter to grow an audience
Publishing a newsletter every week
Building relationships and social capital on Twitter and elsewhere
Keep building my existing projects – new plugins for Carrd, new features for Lifelog
Always collecting and trying new ideas
Staying in the game by surviving, doing whatever to extend the runway
Staying healthy and productive by consistent daily exercise, eating well, sleep enough, biohacking.
But what if I didn’t care about my weakness, but instead just focused on amplifying my strengths in the game of indie hacking?
What if I used consistency to win in indie hacking? How would that look like?
What are the types of products—and the games they ask of us—where habits and consistency can win, where the 1% compounding, slow grind is the short cut?
Products that take to SEO marketing – finding low competition, high ranked keywords, writing blogs and content, climbing the algorithm over months and years.
Proven ideas that have validated market demand, where it’s a matter of craving out your slice of the pie by moving up the page ranks. This is why I’m thinking I should get back to building Sheet2Bio slowly and calmly too, as the demand is proven by Linktree, Bio.Link. it also fulfil #3 and #4.
Less product categories that’s driven by hype (e.g. web3, AI), but stuff that are evergreen, that people need all the time, like website builders, analytics, boilerplates.
Keep building and improving existing projects, find ways to retain customers, build loyalty, constantly hunt down new distribution channels, the slow grind. I’m already constantly building new tools/features for Carrd plugins and Lifelog.
Continue finding alternative income sources to survive, to keep the game going. I really want to secure a long term, recurring freelance gig for this.
Shipping new products consistently to learn new tech, get new skills, try experiments, incorporate insights into old projects.
