Make luck, then make choices
Be consistent but in many things, then be consistent but in one thing.
“The beginning is mostly luck. The end is mostly choices.” – James Clear
That’s why we indie hackers need to increase surface area for luck to land in the beginning, by launching many products to see which sticks. Trying many things, doing the infamous 12 startups in 12 months, building in public, are all ways to create your own luck.
So at the start, be consistent but in many things.
But after you find one great opportunity, it only makes sense to focus on growing them to their full potential. Find that marketing channel with positive ROI. Price it right. Target people in your ideal customer profile. SEO the hell out of it on Google. You got to make a choice in the fork in the road, and many more forks thereafter. The harvest comes from narrowing down and zooming in on that one good idea, and stacking good choices and decisions on top of one another till you win.
So to get to the end, be consistent but in one thing.
Consistency works but depends on life stage of the indie journey.
It’s seldom either/or.
Be consistent in making luck, then making decisions.
By the way, been dropping surprises every month for my Carrd plugins! This time, it’s an in-app browser redirects for password-protected Carrd sites:
In-app browsers for some apps (like Instagram) have strict policy where they actively block popups like alert boxes. This means the password protect feature for Carrd sites won’t work on these in-app browsers.
This redirect plugin is a workaround for that - if it detects an in-app browser, it will show a message to ask users to open the window in an external browser app. Once there it will automatically redirect the user to the password-protected Carrd site.
Other users using normal browsers will not see the message and be auto-redirected your site to login. See the demo on our Instagram page - click on the in-app-redirect-demo.carrd.co link in bio - it will redirect to a password-protected Carrd site.
